Hospitality: When Faiths Meet

Two cathedrals hit the news in January for interfaith engagement which went wrong. Colin Edwards provides a guest comment on the issue and invites input on some critical questions.

Who's With You?

At times, you may feel like you are going through life alone. You may feel like there is no way out or you are feeling overwhelmed with whatever life is throwing at you.

Gypsies Moving from Fortune-Telling to Christ

At a time when large numbers of people are drifting away from formal religion, the “traveller church” movement ‘Light & Life’ is bucking the trend. Its members have given up drinking alcohol, lying and fortune-telling and many have even abandoned their traditional Catholic faith.

Cross Cultural Mission in Great Britain & Ireland

CHRISTIAN MISSION IS FROM EVERYWHERE TO EVERYWHERE SO GETTING INVOLVED IN CROSS-CULTURAL WITNESS IS NO LONGER RESTRICTED TO GOING OVERSEAS. THERE ARE MANY OPPORTUNITIES AMONG IMMIGRANT COMMUNITIES IN GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND

We have 36 full time and 21 associated people who are based in Great Britain & Ireland, working in cities such as Birmingham; Glasgow; greater London; Cardiff; Manchester; Bristol; Leicester and Sheffield. Our community models culturally appropriate ways that help people of an Asian & Arab family background to see, hear, understand and respond to the good news about Jesus.

NEEDAHAND?

Are you already serving in cross-cultural mission? Do you need any help?

Cross cultural mission in the UK

CHURCHES

Christian mission is from where we are to everywhere else (Acts 1:8). Most churches are engaged in local witness but often feel the need of help when it comes to local cross-cultural or overseas mission. This is where we can help. We have a lot to offer local churches and individuals, wherever they are on the mission journey. Why not book a 'Serve' meeting with one of our team?

Go to Asia and the Arab World

IF YOU COULD GO ON MISSION ANYWHERE, WHERE WOULD YOU GO?

IS IT TIME FOR YOU TO SERVE GOD IN CROSS-CULTURAL MISSION? YOU CAN USE YOUR SKILLS TO REACH THE MARGINALISED, DESITUTE OR UNREACHED PEOPLES OF ASIA & THE ARAB WORLD BY GETTING INVOLVED IN LONG TERM OR SHORT TERM OVERSEAS MISSION.

Why Get Involved?

IF THE WORLD WAS 100 PEOPLE:
20 WOULD LIVE IN A SLUM
42 WOULD NEVER HEAR ABOUT JESUS
49 WOULD LIVE ON LESS THAN £1.50 A DAY

The Unreached

Preaching good news to the poor (Luke 4:18a)

42% of the world's population have no access to the good news about Jesus and unless something changes they will live and die without ever hearing what Jesus has done for them. And 81% of these live in Asia & the Arab world. Jesus was clear that everyone has a right to know and to choose to follow him in ways that are culturally-appropriate for them.

Poverty

Freedom for the prisoners (Luke 4:18b)

Families can be trapped for generations, feeling hopeless and out of control. Jesus had a lot to say about poverty and its effects so Interserve engages with people to address issues such as income-generation; vocational training; education and social justice. We work to bring freedom and release for the poor and oppressed.

Healing

Recovery of sight for the blind (Luke 4:18c)

Often hidden away, the sheer volume of people who are sick, disabled or injured is not immediately apparent when visiting developing countries. Shame and fear surround disabilities and treatable conditions remain uncared for.

There are so many reasons why we are passionate about serving God and the people of Asia & the Arab world in mission

Interserve is one of many players in God’s mission to bring the good news about Jesus to the nations. The needs are great and there is much to do. What part could you play in this vital work?
