How will it look?
Prayer 12 – Interseve’s year of prayer, was launched at our annual conference Goodness, Grace and Me... on May 8th-10th 2009. Our website www.interserve.org.uk and GO magazine, as well as our regular prayer materials, will include ongoing prayer focuses throughout 2009/10, and we will invite participants to feed back to the office things that they feel the Lord might be saying to them about mission in the Interserve world.
We would pray that the initiative will receive significant coverage in the Christian media, encouraging the wider Christian community to participate with us in prayer.
We would expect to receive some significant national and regional publicity for the two and a half weeks of our Walk for Justice, which commences at the end of June. The walk, which will take 17 days, will link The Liver Building, in the heart of Liverpool (key in the British slave trade in the 19th Century) with Pall Mall, London, where Lady Kinnaird, founder of the mission outreach to Asia which ultimately became Interserve, had her offices. The aim is for Interserve staff, supporters and others to walk up to approximately 20 miles each day as they make their way south, praying en route for all aspects of Interserve’s work, including justice for the marginalised in South and Central Asia. At each night stop we aim to contribute to a prayer event organised by supporting churches. We are expecting Interserve ambassador, actess Emma Rigby, to launch the Walk for Justice on 28th June 2009. You can find out the route and further details by looking on Interserve’s website, www.interserve.org.uk Inevitably we will take this opportunity to seek sponsorship for the walkers but the main aim is to promote prayer.
In addition to the Walk for Justice, we aim to add prayer events wherever we are called to stage them. We are hoping to hold 4 Regional prayer events during the year, as well as a 24-hours-of Prayer event. We are keen to help supporters to organise their own prayer walks if they cannot join our Walk for Justice. Additionally there will be focus on, and guidance in, listening to God and materials to help us in doing that are available to download here.
Prayer 12 – Interserve’s year of prayer, will formally conclude in May 2010 with – we anticipate - a major event at the Hayes Conference Centre in Swanwick.
