Get involved
There are many ways we would encourage you, your prayer or home group, or your church to get involved with Prayer 12 – the Interserve year of prayer. And in a sense, you do not need us to tell you how to do that. But if you would like some guidance, maybe the following will inspire you:
Focus
We have two ‘looped’ music-backed powerpoints and a dvd - with accompanying flyers - of three projects with which Interserve workers are involved. The projects represent our work for justice in the areas of the homeless, the hungry and the thirsty in Central and South Asia. These resources are available to anyone who requests them, as well as being downloadable from our website.
Listening to God
We are encouraging those who pray to listen to God for the work of mission at this time in Interserve’s life span, and we have produced some helpful tips and guidance for those who may not be used to praying in this way. We welcome and invite feedback from those who choose to pray in this way, and any feedback will be weighted by the Interserve leadership. You can download a pdf resource about listening to God from the downloads page.
Prayer Sunday (or other day/evening)
We would like to encourage you to have a prayer Sunday or other day/evening in your church. We can send you an outline of a suggested programme which will include a sermon outline with the accompanying aforementioned resources and prayer pointers. Alternatively, we would be happy to come to your church and lead a prayer event for you.
24 hours of prayer (and fasting)
We are aware of so many who pray and fast for 24 hours on a regular basis, and we invite you to consider making Interserve the focus of your praying and fasting on one occasion during the year. We will be happy to provide prayer information for such an event.
Prayer walk
As we have said, we are walking from Liverpool to London as part of Prayer 12 – Interserve’s year of prayer, but if you are not in a part of the UK where we will be passing, perhaps you might consider organising a walk in your own area. This will give you the opportunity to pray not only for the world but for your own area. We can give you suggestions on how to organise these days and of course, we would be happy to come to anything that you organise.
Regional prayer events
We will look to supporters to help us to organize regional prayer events, hosted by Interserve personnel, where we will invite people from the region to come and hear from overseas and UK workers about their work. We will then be able to respond immediately in prayer for their work.
