Fighting in Swat Valley
There has been heavy fighting between Pakistani government forces and Taliban militants in the Swat Valley in north-west Pakistan for many days now, and the situation is having a serious effect on the lives of many thousands of people. The Pakistani military has been fighting the Taliban for nearly a month, and it is estimated that over 2 million people have been forced to flee their homes. More recently there has been street-to-street fighting in Mingora, the main city in the Swat Valley, and several thousand civilians are believed to be trapped.
Please pray for peace and stability in the Swat Valley and in Pakistan in general, as terrorists have carried out attacks in several cities in recent months. Pray that the Pakistani government would be strong and would govern justly, and pray that aid would quickly reach those affected by the fighting.
