Church bombed in Nepal

Two people were killed in a bomb attack on a Catholic church in Nepal on May 22nd. The attack, which took place in a church in Lalitpur, south of the capital Kathmandu, killed two people including a schoolgirl and injured another twelve. Although nobody has claimed responsibility for the attack police suspect the involvement of the Nepal Defence Army, an extremist Hindu group which seeks to restore the Nepali monarchy.

The attack comes as political tensions rise throughout Nepal following the resignation of Prime Minister Prachanda. The Maoist leader resigned after his attempt to dismiss the head of the army was blocked by the President.

We ask all our supporters to pray for peace and unity in Nepal and for courage for the church, which has largely enjoyed freedom of worship and freedom from persecution until now. Please pray for political progress in the country and that it would not return to the turbulence seen in recent years.
