Fountain of Life - a feeding project in Central Asia
Needs - £20,000 plus sustainable costs.
Interserve worker Margaret runs a feeding programme for the homeless and she tends their wounds. She is looking to build a shelter for them at a cost of £20,000. She says, “The homeless are expelled from their manholes – their only shelter from the cold – by police using burning torches thrown down the manholes. I went down a manhole to see for myself. It was so dark I could hardly see, which is probably just as well. The manhole has mice, rats, cockroaches, flies and all the men and women had visible lice running through their hair. No doubt they all have tuberculosis. It is damp and smelly and the homeless who sleep there even have to use it as a toilet.”
Andy Reed MP, who has visited the project in Central Asia with Interserve, says ‘If you make only one donation in your life, make it to Fountain of Life.’
