In many countries in the Interserve world, good quality engineering can be difficult to find. Corruption, shoddy manufacturing and a lack of training mean that buildings are often unsafe and can be dangerous.
The importance of Christian involvement in engineering was powerfully demonstrated following an earthquake in a South Asian country some years ago, when the only buildings left standing (including a hospital) were the ones built by a Christian engineering company who refused to take or give bribes and who ensured that safety guidelines were meticulously followed.
